2018 is looking like it’s going to be an exciting year for Hi-Vis Press. We’ve got two books already in the pipeline from two genuine talents.
Firstly, there’s a book of poetry coming from the patron saint of Nottingham poetry, Miggy Angel. We met up with him just over a fortnight ago to go over the general look and feel of the book. It’s coming out sometime this spring. Appropriately, it’s called Extreme Violets. And it’s going to be a banger – trust me, I’ve seen the manuscript. It’s fucking mint.
If you’re new to Miggy, you can find him here. His musical collaboration is here (well worth a look), and if you’re in the UK you can meet him on the last Thursday of every month at the best open mic night in Nottingham, Speech Therapy.
If you want to hear Miggy’s thoughts on poetry, his plans, his past and a preview of his music, all rolled conveniently together into a single podcast, then have a click on this.
On a side note, Miggy runs Burning House Press. They’re currently on the lookout for submissions.
Last, but not least, we’ve also got Dean Lilleyman’s Billy and the Devil coming out too. For those that don’t know, it’s a cracking book that shows Billy’s life with all its ups and its harrowing downs. The writing is the real stuff, top draw. You can find an online version of it here.
If you want to know more about the book, such as the past publication history, and why we’re publishing it, have a look here.
Dean is an interesting maker-creative based beyond Chesterfield. He’s also a very sound, genuine bloke too. He’s got a folk double act going on with his partner Beth. You can find that here (twitter) or here (website). If you’re lucky, you’ll get a chance sometime to see Dean do one of his readings accompanied by Beth’s folk playing. It’s a worthwhile experience. The room goes hush-hush, listens.
Last Saturday, we met with Dean and Beth to discuss plans for Billy. He made an excellent coffee. Spoke of the struggle for authenticity. Once we’d decided on the right way to do things, we all went to the pub for a bite to eat. The novel was another step closer to its release..
All being well, Billy and the Devil should be available for pre-order late spring / summer time.
